Pharmacist and Pharmacy Students Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Explain the requirements for the accounting of controlled substances: drugs, people and records.
  • Describe the parameters for the prescribing and dispensing of non-controlled medications and controlled substances.
  • Discuss the pharmacist's role in medical marijuana dispensing.
  • Describe New York's opioid overdose prevention laws pertaining to naloxone, immunity and dispensing requirements.
  • Discuss how New York achieves quality assurance for the profession of pharmacy through licensing,ncontinuing competence and regulation.
  • Discuss the application of prescription laws and regulations in pharmacy practice and their impact on minimizing medication errors.
  • Identify Professional Misconduct law and Unprofessional Conduct rules and their impact on minimizing medication errors.
  • Discuss institutional pharmacy practice regulations and their impact on medication safety.
  • Discuss the legal history and key terms of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
  • Discuss the many processes for the entry of legal, illegal, and tolerated products into the drug supply chain.
  • Review the regulation of pharmacy practice by FDA and its impact on medication safety and error minimization.
  • Classify the components of the Drug Quality and Security Act and its impact on medication errors.
  • Describe the requirements for patient counseling and distribution of patient information materials.
  • Describe the responsibilities of the Supervising Pharmacist.
